Many Thanks to all of you who completed the Self Assessment Verification form and are now identified as the first group of Sign Off Mentors. The full Nursing and Midwifery Council standard is is now effective for mentors required to achieve sign off status (please see earlier posts) which means that the period of Self Assessment Verification is now closed.
The request to undertake the self assessment process was met on the whole by acknowledgement that the new NMC standard is essential to ensure future registrants are fit for practice. There was however some apprehension relating to the perceived extra accountability. Its essential to remember that since the implementation of the All Wales Initiative mentors signing off supervised practice outcomes are already assessing standards of proficency. This in turn informs university programme managers that the clinical requirements of the pre-registration course have been acheived.
